Gaîté Lyrique
The main exhibition for 2012 at the Gaïté Lyrique, ‘2062 // A Return Ticket to the Future’, was a reflexion on the future and its contamination by consumerism and superficial pleasures. Designing the museum’s brochure would mainly consist on focusing on that event as well as showing a creativity mimetic to the peculiarity and specificity of the venue. The Gaïté Lyrique is an institution devoted to digital and numerical culture and music. International artists from the numerical world come to share their creations and push ever further the boundaries of contemporary art by combining various medias and animations.

I imagined a vision of the world in 2062 where specificity had disappeared, a time when consumerim had reduced the world population to a single mind, where everyone wore the same clothes, thought the same thoughts, reacted the same way, bought the same things - a shallow world of easy satisfaction. While I don’t exactly share this depressing view, it is mainly what the artists tried to express in the exhibition. Therefore I decided to use pictograms of a single color for the layout: images reduced to their most basic form and representing objects in the most commonly viewed and widely recognized drawing - almost a symbol. Those pictograms are printed on rodoid sheets so that they hide some of the content of the brochure, like an invasion of the actual world by the future of 2062.

The overall effect appears childish and shallow yet amusing - most people ravaged by consumerism actually strive to resemble and mimic one another, they don’t perceive this attitude as denying their own personnality and specificity...
